Notes of Parish Meetings
Notes from the Parish Council Meeting - May 2010
The following were amongst items discussed at Parish Council meetings and information received by the Clerk. The full minutes may be found here.
Elections
The Parish Council election will now be held on 27 May. Even
if you are feeling election-weary please vote. There is an excellent field
this year. Girton Parish News has kindly offered space for candidates'
details: see page XX. Any late nominations will be on the Village Website.
Several Parish Councillors are standing down. We would like to thank them
for all their work. Particular thanks must go to Sam Clift, Vice-Chairman,
and Ray Gordon, Chairman of the Environment Committee for their commitment,
and energy.
Annual Parish Meeting
This will take place on 1 June 2010 in the Glebe School Hall at 7pm. After
refreshments and a display by local organisations the meeting will begin at
7.30. It will include a presentation of the results of the Village Plan
which will be a major influence on the development of Girton; and a
discussion about the new Parish Council's priorities. Please come and make
your views known.
Wellbrook Way
There has been yet another hiccup in the long-running saga of the transfer
of open space to the Parish Council but the new children's play area is now
being erected.
A14 Public Inquiry
Because of objections, including those by Girton PC, there will be a Public
Inquiry. The A14 Pre-Inquiry open meeting will be at 10am on 24 May at the
Burgess Hall, St Ives.
The Recreation Ground & Car Park
Careless parking is causing unnecessary hazards. Please be considerate, and
allow access by emergency vehicles. Dogs are not permitted on our playing
areas to protect the health of our children, groundsmen, and sports players.
New dog walk signs will go up shortly. The new children's cone climber will
be erected in May.
Government Future Jobs Scheme in Girton
This initiative is funding a clerical assistant, and trainee groundsman for
six months. This will help successful candidates find work, and the Council
to progress projects.
Forthcoming meetings
The final meeting of the current Council will be on 19 May at 7.30pm in St
Vincent's Community Centre. The first meeting of the new Council will take
place on 9 June.
