Bowling in Girton
Over six years ago we held a meeting in the pavilion for those residents that were interested in a lawn bowling green in Wellbrook Way. There have been many stumbling blocks along the way, but we believe we are close to the point where the Parish Council will give the go-ahead for a green, provided we can demonstrate that support for the green and a Girton Bowls Club remains strong. The commonly-held opinion that bowls is a sport for the elderly is, of course, wrong. The world's best bowlers are relatively young, and they would have started bowling at a very young age to achieve their prowess. Bowls is one of the few sports that can be played by young and old of both genders, and by people with disabilities, at an equal level. It is a sport for the whole community. We have formed a Girton Bowls Club Steering Group. To convince us and the Parish Council that a bowls green in Wellbrook Way will be an asset to Girton, and will not be a burden on ratepayers, we need you to express your support. If you are interested in playing bowls in Girton, either competitively or as a leisure activity, please send your contact details by email to peter@ade4cae.co.uk or phone me on 01223 564440. Without your express support, we will not have a bowls green, so please contact me as soon as you can. Thank you.
