Girton Post Office and Stores - February 2007
We welcome Leon and Michelle Reed, and their two boys, Adam (8) and Callum (7), as the new people running the Post Office and Stores. They come from Peterborough, where Leon worked for Stapletons, a company specialising in supplying tyres to distributors of Mercedes and BMW cars. Michelle worked for the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society, dealing with the public as a customer service adviser. The boys will be attending Oakington Primary School, since Girton Glebe School currently is full.
Their interests centre around the family, but Michelle enjoys swimming, and Leon likes watching rugby and ice hockey, and used to do some cross-country running.
The new shop opening hours are:
7.30am - 7.00pm Monday to Friday
7.30am - 6.00pm Saturday
7.30am - 12.30pm Sunday.
Post Office hours are:-
9.00am - 1.00pm and 2.00pm - 5.30pm
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
9.00am - 1.00pm Wednesday
9.00am - 12.30pm Saturday.
Closed Sunday
Their plans for the new operation include a new ceiling and floor, the sale of vegetables from outside the shop, (under an awning), and a wider range in the off-licence. Credit and debit card facilities are now available. They will continue to sell and deliver newspapers, but do not intend to encroach on the business at the other end of the village.
Leon and Michelle want to get involved in the community: they say "We're here for the long term". We wish them well.
