Scrub Hub for Girton

Hi! We are setting-up a Girton Scrub Hub to join the wonderful volunteer effort around the country supplying much needed scrubs for front line health workers in hospitals, care homes and the community.
We have checked with the Cambridge and Peterborough Foundation Trust who have confirmed that they continue to be “very grateful” for scrubs of all sizes, made to a given specification.
Girton volunteers would be adding to the effort of other local scrub hubs (eg the Cambridge For the Love of Scrubs group), and following the same guidelines.
Why the on-going need? In addition to ongoing demand in hospitals, the infectious nature of the Covid-19 virus means that many community care workers who would not normally wear uniforms are being asked to wear scrubs when in contact with patients to reduce infection risks. The Cambridge and Peterborough Foundation Trust is aiming to give 3 pairs of scrubs to every patient-facing member of staff. (One to wear; one for the wash; one to be drying.)
We are looking for:
Volunteers – with access to good fabric scissors – to cut fabric from patterns (which will be provided) to create ready-to-sew bundles.
Confident sewers who have a sewing machine (and, ideally, an overlocker) so that the garments can be made to the professional standard our NHS workers deserve.
Volunteers who can travel by foot/ bike/ car and don’t mind offering to help with the logistics of delivering  patterns/ fabric or posting finished item.
Less experienced sewers who are confident to make drawstring bags to contain each pair of scrubs.
Donations! If anyone has a knack for local fundraising and would like to help to cover the cost of fabric, please get in touch!
We can provide:
For the scrubs, we can provide and deliver patterns, fabric and elastic, plus instructions for making them.
For the bags, we can also provide fabric (but there is more scope for volunteers to use their own fabric, so long as it will withstand washing at 60 degrees).
Please contact us if you can help.
Thank you!
