Girton at the London Marathon

At least two Girton folk are running the London Marathon on October 3rd to raise funds for good causes. Please do consider supporting them.

Mr Ryan Thomas, a former teacher at Gretton School in Girton, will run the Marathon in memory of Andy Madden, a Gretton student who died of cancer in April 2021. Andy was 16 and in Year 11 at Gretton, joining the school in Year 3. He was highly regarded by staff at the school. He loved aircraft of all kind and had a quirky sense of humour. In August 2020 he had an emergency splenectomy and was diagnosed with lymphoma. Mr Thomas, with other Gretton staff, was very supportive of Andy during his brief illness, for which his parents and brother are very grateful.  Mr Thomas is raising funds for Children with Cancer UK.

Alexandra Borrelli, a PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge, has lived in Church Lane since July 2021. She has spent the past few weeks running the streets of Girton and surrounding areas in training for the Marathon. She is raising money for the Prader Willi Syndrome Association, a charity that looks after children and adults living with PWS in the UK; her brother Charles lives with this condition and he is greatly supported by the charity. She is 70% to her fundraising goal and would be grateful for support.
