Queen Elizabeth II – Message from Girton Parish Chairman

It was with enormous sadness and distress that I learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II earlier this evening. Her reign, which has encompassed almost the whole of my life, provided an oasis of stability and strength in a rapidly changing world; her steadfast service to our nation over 70 years is unmatched in its length and quality. I hope I speak for the whole of Girton Parish Council, and for all our residents, when I express sorrow over her death mingled with great gratitude for her life. To her family I extend our sympathy.

I have been asked to say that the church will be open this evening for those who wish to pray or meditate there, or to lay flowers on the area outside the main (south) door. Tomorrow we shall toll the bell at noon to mark the passing of this gracious and steadfast lady who has done so much for our nation.
